XFCE by default mirrors the display in a dual screen setup. From what I have searched in the settings, there is no configuration to change this behavior. To circumvent this, install arandr( sudo apt-get install arandr).
arandr shows overlapped boxes( in this case ), drag them to configure your monitors the way you want it to be.
